Trip details
So we left our place in the ghetto bright and early after Ollie terrorized Uncle P for a good hour with his exceptionally healthy lungs. We got to the airport, and Ollie bitterly complained about having to wait in line at the airline counter, then security, then the gate. We got on the plane and saw a million babies in the airplane. Apparently it was the baby plane, however, no one let us know.
Anyhow, he was a saint on the plane, slept most of it, then ate his pasta like a good little boy, drank his milk and just hung out. He listened while the other babies acted up, and was just pretty exceptional on the plane.
We got to our hotel and he was so good, he checked out the room as we put our stuff away, then we went for some dinner. He refused his dinner because Crazy ordered the popcorn chicken, which Ollie tried to eat, but unfortunately he couldn't eat it and soon got really frustrated trying to eat his meal. So we left quickly, where he continued to cry and complain of hunger. We pulled into a parking lot of a strip mall in Pearl City and ordered some Vietnamese rice place where Ollie proceeded to eat at his heart's content, he then fell asleep quickly. This would prove to be a fatal move because he refused to sleep later on.
Anyhow, we started Sunday bright and early. By bright and early, I mean 5:30 am Oahu time. We heated up some left overs for Ollie and then went for the hotel breakfast at 7:30 am. After breakfast we headed out to our favorite place on the island....North Shore. Desperate for coffee, we ordered our lunch plates (before they were open) from the lunch truck parked outside a grocery store. We then took our lunch to Mokuleia beach and had a fabulous lunch. We had grilled kalbi, pork, and chicken rice plates. It was so good, we ordered some more on our way back to the hotel for dinner. We stopped off at a local ice cream shop in the North Shore, and saw some really cute baby t shirts from a local company called Keiki Kruisers (pronounced KeeKi), Keiki is the hawaiian term for child or baby. We purchased a few t shirts for Ollie and may I just say that they are seriously cute? Anyhow we attempted to drive to Turtle Bay to grab some fruit, however, we didn't know there was a huge surfing tournament that day, so traffic made us turn around. I did find a a fruit stand and managed to grab a few items. Can I say YUM?
That is coconut, dragon fruit, pineapple and guava.
The inside of the dragon fruit. It kinda tastes like kiwi, but not as sweet.
While there, I ate papaya everyday. Ollie ate a lot of meat, we noticed he likes sausage. Quit the jokes Auntie A. We would microwave sausage every morning for him, and he'd walk around and play with the toys he had in the hotel room, then come ask for more sausage. This kid can EAT.
When we first got married, Crazy and I lived in a cute 2 bedroom condo across the street from the beach in North Shore's Waialua. We tried to get a vacation rental there, but surfing season made it non existent, and some woman wanted $900 for her condo for a week. Um...no thanks? But we spent a lot of our vacation in the North Shore. Crazy loved Mokuleia beach and since there was rarely anyone there, we made a point of going there to have our lunches. A lot of wind surfers were there, but they were mostly on the ocean wind surfing, so we were pretty much alone on the beach. We made it to a few other beaches, I really enjoyed Koalua beach near Chinaman's hat. It was quiet and mostly locals and everyone just left us alone. We went to waikiki beach, which was fulled with tourists, and on our last day we went to Lanikai Beach and Kailua Beach. We later had lunch at a lunch plate place in Waimanolo. It was one of the more disgusting experiences on our trip. We had to throw it all out and go back to the hotel.
We went to a sushi restaurant on our last night. Ollie was asleep in the stroller, while we were able to enjoy the full attention of Chef Masa at Sushi Masa. It was the *BEST* sushi experience of my life and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. Chef Masa just made us delicious morsel after delicious morsel. I LOVED the entire meal and when we left, I was nice and full, not bloated. My gosh, it was good, so make note, if you go to Oahu, please do try Sushi Masa. Everything was delicious and fresh.
On the trip, Ollie learned a few words. Oh Oh, ball, more and that's about it. I'm pretty sure "oh oh" doesn't count as a word, but I will take it. I also noticed that Ollie calls me "Ahmie", and da da da da da da da. Which I guess is Crazy.
